Protopep (protopep.co.za (opens in new tab)) had directly conflicting reputation data between two existing SA review sites, and its site had previously been unreadable by our standard checker. A 2026-09-06 re-check got through cleanly for the first time — surfacing published courier rates, a working checkout financing option and a real (if restrictive) return policy that weren't visible before, enough to move it up from the bottom of our ranking.

What we verified directly

Full, transparent price list. A full-site crawl on 2026-09-06 counted the catalog precisely at 40 items (not the ~50 we'd estimated), each with an exact price — including CJC-1295 without DAC at R320, matching the price peptideradar.co.za had reported. Other examples: BPC-157 R380, TB-500 R380, Semax R390, Ipamorelin R320.
Broad consumables range alongside peptides: vials, syringes, bacteriostatic water, reusable pens, vial holders.
Published regional courier rates (new, 2026-09-06). South Africa-only shipping, with rates shown per region: local overnight (Johannesburg/Pretoria/inland) R195; Cape Town & Durban via air courier R245 plus a jet-fuel surcharge; outlying areas (e.g. Bredasdorp) R345; free in-person collection in Johannesburg; free shipping on orders over R2,500. The site states it "does not profit from courier fees — rates are passed on at cost."
Payment methods confirmed (revised 2026-09-06). Its Terms & Conditions (§5) state: "We accept credit cards, debit cards, and electronic bank transfers" — standard card/EFT, on top of the Payflex buy-now-pay-later (4 interest-free installments) already confirmed on every product page.
Return policy is more specific than a blanket refusal (revised 2026-09-06). Its /return-policy page lists concrete eligibility: damaged/compromised-in-shipping products, and incorrect items received — narrower exceptions than our earlier "no returns accepted once shipped" summary implied, though still no general change-of-mind returns.
Published contact details. info@protopep.co.za, +27 71 044 8105, Mon–Fri 9AM–5PM SAST. Still no physical address beyond "South Africa," and no CIPC/VAT registration found even after a full site crawl.
Testing claim, no specifics. The site describes "long-term relationships with proven manufacturers who follow GMP, with periodic third-party testing." Its Terms & Conditions (§4) state COAs come included with all products ("confirming purity and molecular weight"), which is a stronger claim than the informal "available upon request" language used elsewhere on the site — an internal inconsistency worth knowing, on top of the fact that no lab is named anywhere either way.

Unfilled template text in live legal pages (new, 2026-09-06): both /terms-conditions §16 and the /privacy-policy contact section contain literal, never-customized placeholders — "Email: info@protopep.com" (wrong domain; the real site is .co.za), "Phone: +27 (0) XXX-XXXX," and "Address: [Your Business Address]" — sitting in the same documents that are supposed to be Protopep's formal legal terms, even though a real phone number and email appear correctly elsewhere on the site. This is a genuine quality/trust gap in its own paperwork, not just an absence of information.

Built on a third-party app platform: Protopep's account/login flow routes through manus.im, a third-party AI app-building platform, rather than a first-party account system — worth knowing if you're assessing how the storefront itself is run, though it isn't in itself evidence of anything about the products sold.

Notably absent: a full 2026-09-06 crawl of all 40 catalog items confirms semaglutide, tirzepatide and retatrutide are still nowhere in Protopep's range, despite its own meta description advertising "premium research-grade peptides" broadly. If you're specifically looking for those three compounds, several other vendors on this list carry them and Protopep does not.

Where it loses points

No named testing lab despite the "third-party tested" claim, and an inconsistency between "COA included" (Terms) and "available upon request" (elsewhere).
No registration number or street address found anywhere we could check, and its own legal pages contain unfilled placeholder contact details (above) rather than real ones.
Narrow return eligibility (damaged or incorrect items only) — disclosed, but restrictive for the buyer.
Conflicting secondary sources: peptidevendors.co.za scored it lowest of eight vendors it reviewed (16/100); peptideradar.co.za lists it as "verified." We're going on what we could read ourselves, not either competitor's score.

Bottom line

Protopep's prices are the most transparent, product-by-product, of anyone we've checked — and now that its site is reliably readable, published courier rates, a working Payflex financing option and a real (if restrictive) return policy move it into the middle of our ranking. Still no named lab, which keeps a ceiling on how high it can go.
